
LECTURES, DOCUMENTARIES, AND FILMS
Professor Steven T. Katz holds the Alvin J. and Shirley Slater Chair in Jewish Holocaust Studies at Boston University and is the former Director of the Elie Wiesel Center for Jewish Studies. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in 1972. Prior to coming to Boston, he taught at Dartmouth College and then Cornell University, where he chaired the Department of Near Eastern Studies. He is a member and former co-chair of the Academic Committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Chair of the Holocaust Commission of the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture, and former Academic Advisor to the Chair (2011-2017) of the 38 countries that belong to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
Prof. Katz has published over 120 articles in the fields of Jewish Studies, Holocaust studies, philosophy of religion, and comparative mysticism, and has lectured at universities in Israel, Europe, and around the world, including Australia, India, China, and recently Iran. Dr. Katz participated in the TMP 2025 Lecture Series (seen below) and is a key presenter in the program.
Professor Lanitra Berger is a scholar, writer, and educator at George Mason University whose work focuses on Black intellectual history, African American studies, and the intersection of race, gender, and religion. She teaches in the areas of social justice, Black studies, and cultural history, and is known for helping students examine how historical narratives shape contemporary conversations about identity and inequality.
Her research and public scholarship explore the lives, thoughts, and global connections of Black communities, emphasizing the importance of historical memory and cross-cultural understanding. Through her teaching and writing, Berger encourages critical engagement with issues of race, power, and human rights in both American and global contexts.
